Step Marking क्या है — Simple Example

मान लो Maths में एक 5-mark question है। तुमने सब steps सही किए लेकिन last calculation में arithmetic mistake हो गई।

बिना step marking के: 0 marks (final answer गलत)

Step marking के साथ: 4/5 marks (4 steps सही थे, 1 step में mistake)

यही है step marking — partial credit for partial work।

CBSE Step Marking कैसे काम करती है

CBSE हर question के लिए एक official marking scheme बनाता है। इसमें exactly लिखा होता है:

कौन सा step कितने marks का है
अगर step missing है तो कितने marks काटे जाएंगे
Alternative methods में marks कैसे दिए जाएंगे

Examiner इसी marking scheme से match करके marks देता है।

Marking Scheme का Example — Maths

Question: Solve: 2x² + 5x - 3 = 0 (3 marks)

Step	Marks
Correct method identify करना (factorization/formula)	1 mark
Correct substitution या factoring	1 mark
Correct final values of x	1 mark

अगर तुमने method सही identify किया, substitution सही किया, लेकिन calculation में mistake हुई → 2/3 marks मिलेंगे।

Maths में Step Marking

Maths में step marking सबसे detailed होती है।

Key Rule: हर step नई line पर। Steps clearly labeled। Final answer underlined या boxed।

Example — Calculus (5 marks):

Find ∫(2x + 3)dx

Step 1: Apply standard formula ∫xⁿdx = xⁿ⁺¹/(n+1)    [1 mark]

Step 2: ∫(2x + 3)dx = ∫2x dx + ∫3 dx                  [1 mark]

Step 3: = 2·x²/2 + 3x + C                              [2 marks]

Step 4: = x² + 3x + C                                  [1 mark]

अगर Step 3 में calculation mistake हो गई लेकिन method सही था → 3/5 marks।

Physics में Step Marking

Physics numericals में step marking Maths जैसी ही होती है।

Critical: Units हर step में लिखो। Unit missing = step incomplete।

Example — Ohm's Law (3 marks):

V = 12V, R = 4Ω, find I

Step 1: V = IR (Ohm's Law)                    [1 mark]

Step 2: I = V/R = 12/4                        [1 mark]

Step 3: I = 3 A                               [1 mark]

अगर formula सही लिखा लेकिन calculation गलत हुई → 2/3 marks।

Chemistry में Step Marking

Chemistry में step marking equations और calculations दोनों में होती है।

Numerical Questions:

Formula → Substitution → Calculation → Answer with units

Equation-based Questions:

Reactants → Products → Balancing → Conditions

Example — Mole Concept (4 marks):

Find moles in 44g of CO₂ (Molar mass = 44 g/mol)

Step 1: Formula: Moles = Given mass / Molar mass    [1 mark]

Step 2: Moles = 44g / 44 g/mol                     [1 mark]

Step 3: Moles = 1 mol                              [1 mark]

Step 4: Number of molecules = 1 × 6.022 × 10²³    [1 mark]
       = 6.022 × 10²³ molecules

OSM में Step Marking — Extra Important

2026 में OSM की सबसे बड़ी complaint थी: missed step marks।

क्या हुआ: Students ने steps लिखे थे, लेकिन:

Steps एक line में compress थे → screen पर clearly नहीं दिखे
Steps pencil से थे → scan में नहीं आए
Steps margins में थे → scan में cut हो गए

Result: Examiner ने steps नहीं देखे → step marks नहीं दिए।

OSM में Steps कैसे लिखें

Step Marking से Maximum Marks कैसे लो

Strategy 1: Method पहले लिखो

अगर तुम्हें पूरा solution नहीं आता, तो भी method/formula लिखो। Method के marks मिलेंगे।

अगर पूरा नहीं आता:
"Using the formula: F = ma
Given: m = 5 kg, a = 3 m/s²
F = 5 × 3 = ..."

Method लिखने से कम से कम 1 mark मिलेगा।

Strategy 2: कोई Question Blank मत छोड़ो

हर question में कुछ न कुछ लिखो:

Formula लिखो
Given values लिखो
Method identify करो

Blank = 0 marks। कुछ भी = कम से कम 1 mark।

Strategy 3: Units हमेशा लिखो

Physics और Chemistry में units missing = step incomplete।

गलत: I = 3
सही: I = 3 A

Strategy 4: Alternative Method भी Valid है

CBSE marking scheme में usually alternative methods के लिए भी marks होते हैं। अगर तुम्हें standard method नहीं आता, alternative method से solve करो — marks मिलेंगे।

Strategy 5: Final Answer Box करो

Final answer को box में रखो या underline करो। Examiner को clearly दिखे कि final answer कहाँ है।

क्या alternative method से solve करने पर marks कम होते हैं?
